Step inside the Minneapolis Sound for a rare, up-close evening of songs and stories. With St. Paul Peterson on guitar and vocals, and Dr. Fink on keyboards, The Purple Sessions strips the music back to its essentials—revealing the memories, creative connections, and personal experiences behind a remarkable musical legacy.
St. Paul Peterson: A founding voice of the Minneapolis Sound, St. Paul Peterson was discovered by Prince at just 17 years old and recruited to join The Time, appearing in the iconic film Purple Rain. He later became the lead vocalist of Prince's groundbreaking group The Family, whose debut album introduced the world to "Nothing Compares 2 U." Beyond his work with Prince, Peterson has built an impressive career as a solo artist, songwriter, and producer, collaborating with musical legends including Steve Miller, Peter Frampton, Kenny Loggins, and George Benson. As the leader of St. Paul & The Minneapolis Funk All Stars, he continues to celebrate the music that defined a generation. In The Purple Sessions, St. Paul brings his guitar, unmistakable voice, and firsthand memories of the extraordinary musical movement that changed popular music.
Dr. Fink: Few musicians are as closely associated with the legendary Minneapolis Sound as Matt "Dr. Fink" Fink. Best known as the keyboardist for Prince & The Revolution, Fink was a key member of Prince's band during its most celebrated era, contributing to the groundbreaking blend of funk, rock, pop, and synthesizer-driven music that captivated audiences worldwide. Instantly recognizable for his trademark surgical scrubs and sunglasses, Dr. Fink appeared in the film Purple Rain and performed on some of Prince's most influential recordings. His distinctive keyboard work helped shape the sound of an era. In The Purple Sessions, Fink trades the spectacle of arena stages for an intimate setting, sharing the music, memories, and creative experiences from his years inside Prince's musical world.
